Photo booth hire at Northern Monk Refectory is a natural fit for a venue built around good beer, good company and a bit of a party. Selfie Star has worked at Northern Monk for a Christmas party, and the brewery’s industrial character in Holbeck makes a brilliant setting for a booth. We are a luxury photo booth company based in Swillington, Leeds. Weddings are our main focus, but we also provide booths for Christmas parties, corporate events and private celebrations across the city.
About Northern Monk Refectory and The Chapter Hall
Northern Monk’s Leeds Refectory is in The Old Flax Store at Marshall’s Mill in Holbeck, just south of Leeds city centre. The building is a Grade II listed former flax store and is also home to the brewery’s original brewing site. The taproom sits above the brewery and pours a wide range of Northern Monk beers on keg and cask alongside guest beers, and there is a beer garden with its own summer bar. The Refectory runs brewery tours, beer launches, workshops and live music.
For private hire, the main bar is not available in full. Instead, Northern Monk offers The Chapter Hall upstairs, an industrial events space described by the brewery as “a blank canvas for exceptional weddings and private functions”. It has hosted fashion shows, film screenings and photography conferences as well as weddings and parties. As it is a listed building, there is no lift, which is worth bearing in mind when planning your guest list.
Christmas Parties and Corporate Events at Northern Monk
A brewery Christmas party has a relaxed, sociable feel, and a photo booth slots straight into it. We design a personalised print for every staffed booth, which for work events can include your company logo, a festive theme or your team name, so every print becomes a branded keepsake. After the party, the online gallery gives everyone access to the photos, which is handy for team newsletters and social media.
The same applies to product launches, client evenings and staff celebrations. A booth gives guests a reason to mix, and the results tend to be far more natural than posed event photography.

Party Pod. Northern Monk is well within our Party Pod area. This self-service booth produces colour and black and white prints with a choice of backdrops, and it is dropped off in the day so it runs all day, perfect for a relaxed party where guests drift in and out. From £425. Party Pod.
Digital Pod. For a party where guests want photos on their phones straight away, the Digital Pod sends them instantly.
Glam Booth. In an industrial space like The Chapter Hall, black and white portraits look fantastic. Our Kardashian-style photo booth uses beauty lighting and a white backdrop for a studio finish. Staffed, from £650. Glam Booth.
Vintage Booth. For a wedding in The Chapter Hall, our hand-crafted solid oak open booth with a choice of backdrops adds warmth to the industrial setting. From £625, with a £25 upgrade to the Glam Booth. Vintage Booth.

Tips for Planning Your Northern Monk Photo Booth
- Confirm your space. Private events take place in The Chapter Hall, so ask the team where the booth can sit within it.
- Remember there is no lift. Let us know your event details so we can plan setup, and the venue can advise on access.
- Share your timings. We arrive an hour before the booth opens.
- Send branding early. If you want a logo on the prints, share it with us in good time.
- Book December dates early. A booking fee secures your date, with the balance due 14 days before.

Wayne on the night of our wedding was brilliant, super friendly & arrived in plenty of time for the start of the evening celebrations! We met Sally and Wayne at a wedding fair and hiring them was the best decision ever ( despite already having a DJ provided within our wedding package at Aldwark Manor) we knew it would be an extra cost but we were willing to do this as we wanted Wayne as our DJ , and he was worth every penny, he made our wedding exactly what we wanted he listened to our preferences and tailored the music to our taste. The guests absolutely loved him. He also helped organise the dance floor which I wanted and provided letters. Sally on the photobooth was equally amazing, guests had such a laugh and kept Sally busy. Definitely a must have at any party. The added bonus of us receiving a copy of every photo taken that night and placed in a box was simply brilliant myself and my husband were able to look through these at our leisure and have a good giggle. So a massive thank you to both Sally & Wayne and if your looking for a top class DJ and photo booth look no further we highly recommend these guys they are the best.

We booked Selfie Star Photobooths after seeing the photobooth in action at a wedding fayre. Booking with them was seamless and everything was so easy to access on the portal. On the day, set up was done with no issues whatsoever and our guests were free to enjoy the fun this brought to our evening. All of our guests commented on how fantastic the photobooth was and how well it was operated. It brought so much fun and energy to the evening and was loved by everyone. we loved our photo booth for our wedding last month. Not only did we hire that from Selfie Star, we hired the DJ, venue uplighting and sparkler fountains. Absolutely amazing DJ and photobooth service for our wedding! Communication beforehand was excellent and they made everything so easy and stress-free from start to finish. They arrived punctually, were incredibly professional, and did everything we asked for with no problem at all. The DJ kept the dancefloor full all night and was also a fantastic MC, helping the whole evening run smoothly and keeping the atmosphere lively and fun. The photobooth was such a hit with all our wedding guests too! We booked Selfie Star Photo Booth for our wedding and honestly it was one of the best investments we made. We went for the Kardashian filter to match our monochrome wedding theme and it looked incredible — the photos came out so stylish and elevated. Our guests absolutely loved it and were using it all night. The fact guests could have unlimited prints was amazing, and every print strip was personalised with our Mr & Mrs name and wedding date, with 3 photos on each print which looked so professional. Sally also shared a download link afterwards with all of the images, which was such a lovely touch. One of our favourite parts was coming home with a beautiful gift box containing copies of all the prints for us to add into our guest book and keep forever. Sally was fantastic throughout and everything ran so smoothly. We couldn’t recommend Selfie Star enough!
What a cracking experience we had at a wedding yesterday with Selfie Star! Overall a friendly, humorous but professional service! selfie star made our wedding!! run by two of the nicest people we have ever met, Wayne and sal went above and beyond for us to make our special day run as smoothly as possible. They even took all the stress away before hand and communicated with the hotel about arranging the room and making sure everything we had hired from them would fit, they contacted the tribute band we had coming to the wedding and made their set up easier by connect up to selfie stars equipment which made our turn around from the day in to the evening party much quicker! The dancefloor, star light back drop and light up shoots completely transformed our room, it looked amazing!! we also had the dancing with clouds and cold spark fire work for our first dance which was also looked amazing! selfie star also hosted our full day and was our DJ Which I believe made the day run so well. They made us feel very special and organised all the special parts of the day to make sure they went as well as they possibly could and really made the special moments count! THe music was brilliant they played a mixture of songs we asked for and then a mixture of songs from 80s 90s and now which was great the dancefloor was full of people all night! highly recommended this company they are fantastic, we also had the table selfie centerpiece aswell which we and all our guests had lots of fun with and captured loads of memories!
