Ashington, Morpeth and the Northumberland heartland
Ashington grew up as a coal-mining town, and that heritage is still visible at Woodhorn Museum, where the old colliery headframes stand over the site, and at the Queen Elizabeth II Country Park on reclaimed land just outside town. A short drive west, Morpeth is a handsome market town on a loop of the River Wansbeck, often the base for families gathering before a wedding further north.
Beyond that, Northumberland opens out. Warkworth and its castle sit near the mouth of the River Coquet, Alnwick is home to Alnwick Castle and The Alnwick Garden, and the castle coast runs on past Dunstanburgh and Bamburgh towards Holy Island. It’s sparsely populated, wide-skied country, and it’s no surprise that many local couples choose a rural estate or converted farm for their day. Up the A1 towards the castle coast
Charlton Hall, near Alnwick, is a Grade II listed Georgian house on a 150-acre estate. Inside it’s anything but stuffy, with bold, eclectic interiors, and the evening takes place in The Looking Glass before The Vaults open as an after-party space. A warm oak booth balances all that colour nicely.
Doxford Barns at Chathill is a cluster of converted farm buildings on a 550-acre estate, with an 18th-century threshing hall for ceremonies and an oak-beamed Great Barn for the meal and party. Stone walls, beams and an open fire in The Forge make it a natural home for the Vintage Booth.
South towards Tyneside and the Durham coast
The Biscuit Factory in Newcastle’s Ouseburn is a Victorian factory turned independent art gallery, with a botanical Garden Room and the larger Biscuit Room suite.
Dalton Old Pump House near Seaham is a restored Victorian Gothic pumping station where couples marry beside a pair of preserved Cornish beam engines. Oak looks lovely against its brick and ironwork.

Adding a wedding DJ and photo booth in Ashington
Plenty of Northumberland couples book their evening entertainment in one go. Planning notes for Northumberland weddings
Rural venues in this part of the county can be popular well in advance, so we’d suggest securing your booth once your venue is confirmed. Most couples book 12 to 24 months ahead. A booking fee holds your date, and the balance isn’t due until 14 days before.
If your venue has several rooms, as many converted farms and estates do, it helps to put the booth close to where the evening party happens rather than in a side room. And if your celebrations run late, think about whether three hours is enough; extra time can be added when you book.

Absolutely amazing DJ and photobooth service for our wedding! Communication beforehand was excellent and they made everything so easy and stress-free from start to finish. We booked Selfie Star Photo Booth for our wedding and honestly it was one of the best investments we made. We went for the Kardashian filter to match our monochrome wedding theme and it looked incredible — the photos came out so stylish and elevated. Our guests absolutely loved it and were using it all night. The fact guests could have unlimited prints was amazing, and every print strip was personalised with our Mr & Mrs name and wedding date, with 3 photos on each print which looked so professional. Sally also shared a download link afterwards with all of the images, which was such a lovely touch. One of our favourite parts was coming home with a beautiful gift box containing copies of all the prints for us to add into our guest book and keep forever. Sally was fantastic throughout and everything ran so smoothly. We couldn’t recommend Selfie Star enough!

selfie star made our wedding!! run by two of the nicest people we have ever met, Wayne and sal went above and beyond for us to make our special day run as smoothly as possible. They even took all the stress away before hand and communicated with the hotel about arranging the room and making sure everything we had hired from them would fit, they contacted the tribute band we had coming to the wedding and made their set up easier by connect up to selfie stars equipment which made our turn around from the day in to the evening party much quicker! The dancefloor, star light back drop and light up shoots completely transformed our room, it looked amazing!! we also had the dancing with clouds and cold spark fire work for our first dance which was also looked amazing! selfie star also hosted our full day and was our DJ Which I believe made the day run so well. They made us feel very special and organised all the special parts of the day to make sure they went as well as they possibly could and really made the special moments count! THe music was brilliant they played a mixture of songs we asked for and then a mixture of songs from 80s 90s and now which was great the dancefloor was full of people all night! highly recommended this company they are fantastic, we also had the table selfie centerpiece aswell which we and all our guests had lots of fun with and captured loads of memories! We booked Selfie Star Photobooths after seeing the photobooth in action at a wedding fayre. Booking with them was seamless and everything was so easy to access on the portal. We met Sally and Wayne at a wedding fair and hiring them was the best decision ever ( despite already having a DJ provided within our wedding package at Aldwark Manor) we knew it would be an extra cost but we were willing to do this as we wanted Wayne as our DJ , and he was worth every penny, he made our wedding exactly what we wanted he listened to our preferences and tailored the music to our taste. The guests absolutely loved him. He also helped organise the dance floor which I wanted and provided letters. Sally on the photobooth was equally amazing, guests had such a laugh and kept Sally busy. Definitely a must have at any party. The added bonus of us receiving a copy of every photo taken that night and placed in a box was simply brilliant myself and my husband were able to look through these at our leisure and have a good giggle.
