The Faversham: from 1940s hotel to quirky wedding venue
The Faversham sits at 1–5 Springfield Mount, on the University of Leeds campus behind Leeds University Union, a few minutes from the city centre. It was established as a hotel in 1947, became a hot spot for sporting stars and celebrities in the 1960s and 1970s, and from 2004 was a hub of the Leeds indie music scene, hosting DJs, club nights and bands.
In 2021 it stepped away from life as a nightclub to become a dedicated events space, with weddings at the core of the business. Today it describes itself as a unique and quirky venue for couples who want something less traditional, combining industrial and contemporary styling with heritage features.
There are four areas that can be hired separately or together:
- The Main Room, with original flooring and exposed brickwork, where the dancing happens
- The Lounge, a more elegant space
- The Conservatory, with a glass roof
- The Terrace, a south-facing outdoor space that can host outdoor ceremonies
The Faversham is licensed for civil ceremonies, and it sits in private grounds with on-site parking, giving a city venue something of a countryside feel.
Picking a booth for The Faversham
A venue with indie heritage and exposed brick calls for a booth with some attitude. Our three favourites here:
Glam Booth. Black and white portraits on a white backdrop with flattering beauty lighting look sensational against brick and industrial textures. Our Kardashian-style photo booth is staffed and starts from £650.
AI Photo Booth. With its music-scene past, The Faversham is a great place to have some fun. The AI Photo Booth offers AI backgrounds, artistic styles, AI avatars and face swap with instant prints, so guests can turn themselves into album covers or artworks.
Vintage Booth. Our vintage photo booth hire brings a hand-crafted solid oak open booth with a choice of backdrops, a lovely contrast to the industrial look. From £625, with a £25 upgrade to the Glam Booth.
As The Faversham is in Leeds, our self-service options are available too. The Party Pod prints in colour or black and white with a choice of backdrops, is dropped off during the day and runs all day, from £425. The Digital Pod sends photos straight to guests’ phones.

Planning tips for a photo booth at The Faversham
Decide which rooms you are using. Because the spaces can be hired separately or together, the booth position depends on your package. Talk to the in-house events team about where it will sit.
Keep it near the dance floor. The Main Room is where the party ends up, so placing the booth close by keeps it busy all evening.
Check room-specific rules. Venues often have different arrangements for different rooms, for example around music or noise. Ask the team what applies to your chosen space.
Plan the timings. If you marry on the Terrace and then move inside, let us know the timings. We arrive an hour before the booth opens and can set up while you are outside.
Have fun with the print. Gig-poster or record-sleeve styles suit this venue well; tell us your ideas and we will design something unique.

selfie star made our wedding!! run by two of the nicest people we have ever met, Wayne and sal went above and beyond for us to make our special day run as smoothly as possible. They even took all the stress away before hand and communicated with the hotel about arranging the room and making sure everything we had hired from them would fit, they contacted the tribute band we had coming to the wedding and made their set up easier by connect up to selfie stars equipment which made our turn around from the day in to the evening party much quicker! The dancefloor, star light back drop and light up shoots completely transformed our room, it looked amazing!! we also had the dancing with clouds and cold spark fire work for our first dance which was also looked amazing! selfie star also hosted our full day and was our DJ Which I believe made the day run so well. we loved our photo booth for our wedding last month. Not only did we hire that from Selfie Star, we hired the DJ, venue uplighting and sparkler fountains. We booked Selfie Star Photo Booth for our wedding and honestly it was one of the best investments we made. We went for the Kardashian filter to match our monochrome wedding theme and it looked incredible — the photos came out so stylish and elevated. Our guests absolutely loved it and were using it all night. The fact guests could have unlimited prints was amazing, and every print strip was personalised with our Mr & Mrs name and wedding date, with 3 photos on each print which looked so professional. Sally also shared a download link afterwards with all of the images, which was such a lovely touch. One of our favourite parts was coming home with a beautiful gift box containing copies of all the prints for us to add into our guest book and keep forever. Sally was fantastic throughout and everything ran so smoothly. We couldn’t recommend Selfie Star enough!

We met Sally and Wayne at a wedding fair and hiring them was the best decision ever ( despite already having a DJ provided within our wedding package at Aldwark Manor) we knew it would be an extra cost but we were willing to do this as we wanted Wayne as our DJ , and he was worth every penny, he made our wedding exactly what we wanted he listened to our preferences and tailored the music to our taste. The guests absolutely loved him. He also helped organise the dance floor which I wanted and provided letters. Sally on the photobooth was equally amazing, guests had such a laugh and kept Sally busy. Definitely a must have at any party. The added bonus of us receiving a copy of every photo taken that night and placed in a box was simply brilliant myself and my husband were able to look through these at our leisure and have a good giggle. We met Wayne & Sally at a wedding fayre. They were both really lovely and approachable, discussing all of their options & packages. Their communication was excellent & their app is easy to use for updates, info on your package and payments. Having used photobooths before, I can say the tech from Selfie Star was the best quality we’ve seen! We had the ICON! Wayne on the night of our wedding was brilliant, super friendly & arrived in plenty of time for the start of the evening celebrations! He had a great attitude with all of our guests, creating a fab atmosphere and we all certainly had fun! We also added late to our booking an audio guestbook, which was no trouble and brilliant to use! Listening back to the messages has been a real highlight. The turnaround on the online photo gallery & audio messages was amazingly quick too, coming back in just a few days after our wedding! Would highly recommend to anyone for any function!
