Smallshaw Spa & Cottages photo booth: an intimate wedding
Smallshaw is not a traditional wedding venue with a banqueting suite. It is a group of holiday cottages with a day spa, which in summer can be booked for exclusive use as a wedding venue. Couples bring in a marquee, choose their own caterers and band, and create the day they want. That freedom is exactly why a photo booth works so well here. In a smaller gathering, a booth is less about queues and more about laughter – families, couples and old friends taking turns, building up a set of photos that captures everyone who was there.
About Smallshaw, Millhouse Green
Smallshaw Spa & Cottages sits on Hollin Lane, just outside the village of Millhouse Green near Penistone, on the border of South Yorkshire and the Peak District. The cottages occupy high ground with views across the surrounding moors, and they overlook the Trans Pennine Trail.
- The cottages: four converted 17th-century barns – Bramble, Birch, Rowan and The Farmhouse – with oak beams and exposed stone alongside modern comforts.
- The spa: an on-site day spa with steam rooms, saunas, an aromatherapy room, an outdoor hot tub and treatment rooms.
- The grounds: landscaped gardens, lawns, a meadow and a tennis court.
- Weddings: exclusive use of the cottages in summer (the spa is separate), with room on the lawns for a marquee.
Which booth for a marquee wedding at Smallshaw?
Because the wedding takes place in your own marquee, the booth needs to fit your styling rather than a fixed room. Three good options:
Vintage Booth. Stone barns, oak beams and countryside views lend themselves to our vintage photo booth hire. The hand-crafted solid oak booth is open-sided, comes with a choice of backdrops, and looks right at home in a rustic marquee. From £625.
Glam Booth. If you want elegant portraits, the Glam Booth is our Kardashian-style photo booth: white backdrop, flattering beauty lighting and black and white prints that look like they belong in a frame. From £650, or a £25 upgrade from the Vintage Booth.
AI Photo Booth. For a playful twist, the AI Photo Booth gives guests AI backgrounds, artistic styles, avatars and face swap, all with instant prints.
Our self-service Party Pod and Digital Pod can be booked at Smallshaw when you also book an EventsDJ DJ.

Wedding DJ and photo booth near Sheffield and Penistone
Smallshaw lets couples choose their own entertainment, so if you would like a DJ, our sister company EventsDJ provides wedding DJs. Booking a DJ and booth together as our Wedding DJ & Photo Booth package costs less than booking separately. The Evening DJ package lasts 5 hours, and cold spark fountains or a sax player can be added. If you would prefer a band, our booth works perfectly alongside live music too.

Planning tips for a marquee photo booth
Marquee weddings give you lots of freedom, which also means a few more things to plan.
- Power and flooring. Our booth needs a level, dry floor and a power supply. Ask your marquee company to plan for both in the spot you choose.
- Shelter from the weather. Place the booth inside the marquee or a covered area, away from open sides on a windy evening.
- Talk to Smallshaw early. Check with the venue about access to the lawn on the day and how your marquee, caterers and suppliers will be arranged.
- Timings. In a smaller wedding, opening the booth soon after the meal works well, so guests can use it between courses, speeches and dancing.
- Book ahead. Couples usually book 12–24 months in advance. A booking fee secures the date and the balance is due 14 days before.

Yes. Our booths work well in marquees, provided there is a level floor and power. We will confirm what we need when you book.

We think so. With fewer guests, everyone gets plenty of turns, and the prints and gift box give you a keepsake of every person who came.
Can we use the booth alongside a live band?
Absolutely. The booth runs independently, so it works with a band, a DJ or a playlist.

We met Wayne & Sally at a wedding fayre. They were both really lovely and approachable, discussing all of their options & packages. Their communication was excellent & their app is easy to use for updates, info on your package and payments. Having used photobooths before, I can say the tech from Selfie Star was the best quality we’ve seen! We had the ICON! Wayne on the night of our wedding was brilliant, super friendly & arrived in plenty of time for the start of the evening celebrations! He had a great attitude with all of our guests, creating a fab atmosphere and we all certainly had fun! We also added late to our booking an audio guestbook, which was no trouble and brilliant to use! Listening back to the messages has been a real highlight. selfie star made our wedding!! run by two of the nicest people we have ever met, Wayne and sal went above and beyond for us to make our special day run as smoothly as possible. They even took all the stress away before hand and communicated with the hotel about arranging the room and making sure everything we had hired from them would fit, they contacted the tribute band we had coming to the wedding and made their set up easier by connect up to selfie stars equipment which made our turn around from the day in to the evening party much quicker! The dancefloor, star light back drop and light up shoots completely transformed our room, it looked amazing!! we also had the dancing with clouds and cold spark fire work for our first dance which was also looked amazing! selfie star also hosted our full day and was our DJ Which I believe made the day run so well. They made us feel very special and organised all the special parts of the day to make sure they went as well as they possibly could and really made the special moments count! THe music was brilliant they played a mixture of songs we asked for and then a mixture of songs from 80s 90s and now which was great the dancefloor was full of people all night! highly recommended this company they are fantastic, we also had the table selfie centerpiece aswell which we and all our guests had lots of fun with and captured loads of memories! We met Sally and Wayne at a wedding fair and hiring them was the best decision ever ( despite already having a DJ provided within our wedding package at Aldwark Manor) we knew it would be an extra cost but we were willing to do this as we wanted Wayne as our DJ , and he was worth every penny, he made our wedding exactly what we wanted he listened to our preferences and tailored the music to our taste. The guests absolutely loved him. He also helped organise the dance floor which I wanted and provided letters. Sally on the photobooth was equally amazing, guests had such a laugh and kept Sally busy. Definitely a must have at any party. The added bonus of us receiving a copy of every photo taken that night and placed in a box was simply brilliant myself and my husband were able to look through these at our leisure and have a good giggle. We booked Selfie Star Photobooths after seeing the photobooth in action at a wedding fayre. Booking with them was seamless and everything was so easy to access on the portal. On the day, set up was done with no issues whatsoever and our guests were free to enjoy the fun this brought to our evening. Absolutely amazing DJ and photobooth service for our wedding! Communication beforehand was excellent and they made everything so easy and stress-free from start to finish. we loved our photo booth for our wedding last month. Not only did we hire that from Selfie Star, we hired the DJ, venue uplighting and sparkler fountains. We booked Selfie Star Photo Booth for our wedding and honestly it was one of the best investments we made. We went for the Kardashian filter to match our monochrome wedding theme and it looked incredible — the photos came out so stylish and elevated. Our guests absolutely loved it and were using it all night. The fact guests could have unlimited prints was amazing, and every print strip was personalised with our Mr & Mrs name and wedding date, with 3 photos on each print which looked so professional. Sally also shared a download link afterwards with all of the images, which was such a lovely touch. One of our favourite parts was coming home with a beautiful gift box containing copies of all the prints for us to add into our guest book and keep forever. Sally was fantastic throughout and everything ran so smoothly. We couldn’t recommend Selfie Star enough!
