Photo booth hire at Askham Hall brings a playful finishing touch to a wedding in one of the Lake District’s most characterful houses, and our team has worked at this venue near Penrith before. We know how the day moves from the lawn or the village church to Bank Barn, and we fit around your plans without fuss.
Selfie Star is a luxury photo booth company based in Swillington, Leeds, and we cover Cumbria and the Lakes as well as Yorkshire. Weddings are our speciality, and every staffed booth comes with a friendly attendant, prints every time and a keepsake set of photos for the two of you.
About Askham Hall
Askham Hall stands in the village of Askham near Penrith, within the Lake District National Park. It’s a Grade I listed house built around a pele tower and courtyard, with medieval origins and later additions in the 16th and early 18th centuries. It was home to the Lowther family for around three centuries, and it opened its doors as a country house hotel, restaurant and wedding venue in 2013.
The gardens are a highlight in their own right. They’re Grade II listed, with topiary and terraced herbaceous borders dating to the 17th century, a long double herbaceous border, formal lawns, ponds, meadows and woodland. A kitchen garden looks out towards the River Lowther, and its produce supplies the hall’s restaurant, Allium. Guests can also enjoy an outdoor heated pool in the warmer months.
Wedding receptions are held in Bank Barn, a restored stone barn with exposed beams, and ceremonies can take place on the front lawn or at nearby St Peter’s Church above the River Lowther.

The Glam Booth. For a setting like Askham Hall, our Glam Booth is a favourite: dramatic black and white portraits that feel right at home among historic surroundings. This Kardashian-style photo booth uses beauty lighting and a white backdrop, so guests look effortlessly polished. From £650.
The Vintage Booth. Couples who prefer a classic look choose the Vintage Booth, hand-crafted from solid oak with a choice of backdrops. It looks wonderful under the beams of Bank Barn, and its open design means friends can pile in together. From £625, with a £25 upgrade to the Glam Booth.
The AI Photo Booth. Our AI Photo Booth adds AI backgrounds, artistic styles, avatars and face swaps, with instant prints. A fell-top or lakeside background is a fun way to bring the scenery into every shot.
Self-service pods. Our Party Pod and Digital Pod are available at Askham Hall when booked with our DJ.

Planning tips for a photo booth at Askham Hall
- Agree a spot in Bank Barn. Talk to the Askham Hall wedding team about where the booth can sit, ideally visible from the dance floor without blocking the bar.
- Plan your timings. If your ceremony is at St Peter’s Church, allow time for guests to return before the evening; the booth usually opens after the first dance.
- Use the gardens in daylight. The terraces and borders are made for portraits with your photographer, leaving the booth to capture the party.
- Think about the season. Lakeland evenings can turn cool, so the booth inside the barn keeps guests warm and entertained.
- Personalise your prints. A design with a Lakeland touch makes every print a souvenir.

selfie star made our wedding!! run by two of the nicest people we have ever met, Wayne and sal went above and beyond for us to make our special day run as smoothly as possible. They even took all the stress away before hand and communicated with the hotel about arranging the room and making sure everything we had hired from them would fit, they contacted the tribute band we had coming to the wedding and made their set up easier by connect up to selfie stars equipment which made our turn around from the day in to the evening party much quicker! The dancefloor, star light back drop and light up shoots completely transformed our room, it looked amazing!! we also had the dancing with clouds and cold spark fire work for our first dance which was also looked amazing! selfie star also hosted our full day and was our DJ Which I believe made the day run so well. They made us feel very special and organised all the special parts of the day to make sure they went as well as they possibly could and really made the special moments count! THe music was brilliant they played a mixture of songs we asked for and then a mixture of songs from 80s 90s and now which was great the dancefloor was full of people all night! highly recommended this company they are fantastic, we also had the table selfie centerpiece aswell which we and all our guests had lots of fun with and captured loads of memories! We met Sally and Wayne at a wedding fair and hiring them was the best decision ever ( despite already having a DJ provided within our wedding package at Aldwark Manor) we knew it would be an extra cost but we were willing to do this as we wanted Wayne as our DJ , and he was worth every penny, he made our wedding exactly what we wanted he listened to our preferences and tailored the music to our taste. The guests absolutely loved him. He also helped organise the dance floor which I wanted and provided letters. Sally on the photobooth was equally amazing, guests had such a laugh and kept Sally busy. Definitely a must have at any party. The added bonus of us receiving a copy of every photo taken that night and placed in a box was simply brilliant myself and my husband were able to look through these at our leisure and have a good giggle. So a massive thank you to both Sally & Wayne and if your looking for a top class DJ and photo booth look no further we highly recommend these guys they are the best.

Their communication was excellent & their app is easy to use for updates, info on your package and payments. Having used photobooths before, I can say the tech from Selfie Star was the best quality we’ve seen! We had the ICON! Wayne on the night of our wedding was brilliant, super friendly & arrived in plenty of time for the start of the evening celebrations! He had a great attitude with all of our guests, creating a fab atmosphere and we all certainly had fun! We also added late to our booking an audio guestbook, which was no trouble and brilliant to use! Listening back to the messages has been a real highlight. We booked Selfie Star Photo Booth for our wedding and honestly it was one of the best investments we made. We went for the Kardashian filter to match our monochrome wedding theme and it looked incredible — the photos came out so stylish and elevated. Our guests absolutely loved it and were using it all night. The fact guests could have unlimited prints was amazing, and every print strip was personalised with our Mr & Mrs name and wedding date, with 3 photos on each print which looked so professional. Sally also shared a download link afterwards with all of the images, which was such a lovely touch. One of our favourite parts was coming home with a beautiful gift box containing copies of all the prints for us to add into our guest book and keep forever. Sally was fantastic throughout and everything ran so smoothly. We couldn’t recommend Selfie Star enough!

we loved our photo booth for our wedding last month. Not only did we hire that from Selfie Star, we hired the DJ, venue uplighting and sparkler fountains. We booked Selfie Star Photobooths after seeing the photobooth in action at a wedding fayre. Booking with them was seamless and everything was so easy to access on the portal. On the day, set up was done with no issues whatsoever and our guests were free to enjoy the fun this brought to our evening.
