Selfie Star is a luxury photo booth company based in Swillington, Leeds, and weddings are at the centre of everything we do. The central and southern Lakes are one of our favourite places to work, with lakeshore hotels, hillside country houses and estates where the whole wedding party can stay.
Why couples choose Windermere and the central Lakes
Windermere runs for around ten miles from Newby Bridge in the south to Ambleside at its head, with Bowness on its eastern shore and steamers and launches crossing the water. Part of the Lake District World Heritage Site, it’s ringed by wooded slopes and fells, and the views change by the hour. Go a little further and you have Grasmere, so closely tied to William Wordsworth, the dramatic valley of Great Langdale beneath the Langdale Pikes, and Kendal, the busy market town that serves as a gateway to the South Lakes.
For a wedding, that means boat arrivals, ceremonies with water in the background and evening receptions where guests step out onto a terrace for the last of the light. A photo booth gives you the other side of the story: the people, the laughter and the dancing, captured up close.

On and above the lake
- Holbeck Ghyll, near Windermere. Built in the late 19th century as a hunting lodge for Lord Lonsdale, it sits high on the hillside with views over the water. Exclusive use of the house and its lodges turns it into a private retreat for a weekend wedding.
- Lakeside Hotel, Windermere. On the southern shore at Newby Bridge and around 15 minutes from junction 36 of the M6, it’s one of the easier Lake District venues for guests coming from Yorkshire, Lancashire or the North East.
- Town Head Estate, Newby Bridge. A 130-acre private estate with half a mile of Windermere shoreline, gardens and woodland, and a boathouse over the water among its ceremony spots.
In the valleys and on the edge of the Lakes
- Langdale Hotel & Spa, Great Langdale. Set on the 35-acre Langdale Estate, a 19th-century gunpowder works turned peaceful woodland, with a beck running past the hotel. Inside, the Hotel Lounge and Partners Room overlook the gardens, and residents can use the Brimstone Spa.
- Casterton Grange, Kirkby Lonsdale. A Victorian house of 1848 designed by Ewan Christian, with Italianate terraces, a walled garden, a lake and cottages on the estate, a short way south-east of Kendal.

Hillside houses and panelled rooms suit the Glam Booth, our Kardashian-style photo booth. A white backdrop and flattering beauty lighting produce elegant black and white portraits, from £650.
Barns, boathouses and garden settings are a natural home for the Vintage Booth, a hand-crafted solid oak open booth with a choice of backdrops, from £625. If you’d like the best of both, Vintage clients can upgrade to the Glam Booth for £25.
Big celebrations with a playful crowd might prefer the AI Photo Booth, with AI backgrounds, artistic styles, avatars and face swap, all printed instantly and run by our attendant.

Your wedding DJ and photo booth in Windermere
EventsDJ is our sister company, providing wedding DJs. Book both and you get our Wedding DJ & Photo Booth package, which saves you money and means one team looks after your evening. EventsDJ’s Evening DJ package runs for 5 hours, and you can add cold spark fountains or a sax player. Practical pointers for a Lake District wedding
- Popular lakeside dates go early, and couples usually reserve us 12 to 24 months ahead. Your booking fee secures the date and the balance is due 14 days beforehand.
- Share your timings with us. We arrive an hour before the booth opens, so let us know when the room will be ready.
- If your ceremony and reception are in different parts of a venue, tell us where the evening will happen so the booth is in the right place.
- Staying guests love a second look at the photos over breakfast, so share your online gallery link the morning after.

Absolutely amazing DJ and photobooth service for our wedding! Communication beforehand was excellent and they made everything so easy and stress-free from start to finish. They arrived punctually, were incredibly professional, and did everything we asked for with no problem at all. The DJ kept the dancefloor full all night and was also a fantastic MC, helping the whole evening run smoothly and keeping the atmosphere lively and fun. We booked Selfie Star Photo Booth for our wedding and honestly it was one of the best investments we made. We went for the Kardashian filter to match our monochrome wedding theme and it looked incredible — the photos came out so stylish and elevated. Our guests absolutely loved it and were using it all night. The fact guests could have unlimited prints was amazing, and every print strip was personalised with our Mr & Mrs name and wedding date, with 3 photos on each print which looked so professional. Sally also shared a download link afterwards with all of the images, which was such a lovely touch. One of our favourite parts was coming home with a beautiful gift box containing copies of all the prints for us to add into our guest book and keep forever. Sally was fantastic throughout and everything ran so smoothly. We couldn’t recommend Selfie Star enough!

selfie star made our wedding!! run by two of the nicest people we have ever met, Wayne and sal went above and beyond for us to make our special day run as smoothly as possible. They even took all the stress away before hand and communicated with the hotel about arranging the room and making sure everything we had hired from them would fit, they contacted the tribute band we had coming to the wedding and made their set up easier by connect up to selfie stars equipment which made our turn around from the day in to the evening party much quicker! The dancefloor, star light back drop and light up shoots completely transformed our room, it looked amazing!! we also had the dancing with clouds and cold spark fire work for our first dance which was also looked amazing! selfie star also hosted our full day and was our DJ Which I believe made the day run so well. They made us feel very special and organised all the special parts of the day to make sure they went as well as they possibly could and really made the special moments count! THe music was brilliant they played a mixture of songs we asked for and then a mixture of songs from 80s 90s and now which was great the dancefloor was full of people all night! highly recommended this company they are fantastic, we also had the table selfie centerpiece aswell which we and all our guests had lots of fun with and captured loads of memories! We met Wayne & Sally at a wedding fayre. They were both really lovely and approachable, discussing all of their options & packages. Their communication was excellent & their app is easy to use for updates, info on your package and payments. Having used photobooths before, I can say the tech from Selfie Star was the best quality we’ve seen! We had the ICON! Wayne on the night of our wedding was brilliant, super friendly & arrived in plenty of time for the start of the evening celebrations! He had a great attitude with all of our guests, creating a fab atmosphere and we all certainly had fun! We also added late to our booking an audio guestbook, which was no trouble and brilliant to use! Listening back to the messages has been a real highlight. The turnaround on the online photo gallery & audio messages was amazingly quick too, coming back in just a few days after our wedding! Would highly recommend to anyone for any function! We met Sally and Wayne at a wedding fair and hiring them was the best decision ever ( despite already having a DJ provided within our wedding package at Aldwark Manor) we knew it would be an extra cost but we were willing to do this as we wanted Wayne as our DJ , and he was worth every penny, he made our wedding exactly what we wanted he listened to our preferences and tailored the music to our taste. The guests absolutely loved him. He also helped organise the dance floor which I wanted and provided letters. Sally on the photobooth was equally amazing, guests had such a laugh and kept Sally busy. Definitely a must have at any party. The added bonus of us receiving a copy of every photo taken that night and placed in a box was simply brilliant myself and my husband were able to look through these at our leisure and have a good giggle.
