About The Milner York
The Milner York is a Grade II listed Victorian railway hotel of yellow brick on Station Road, in York city centre. It was completed in 1878 to a design by the North Eastern Railway’s William Peachey, and was the railway’s flagship hotel. Over the years it has been the Royal Station Hotel, the Royal York and The Principal, and it was renamed The Milner York in 2024.
The new name honours William Milner, a York station foreman who was killed in April 1942 during the Baedeker Blitz while trying to fetch first aid supplies from the station. It’s a fitting story for a hotel so closely tied to the railway.
The hotel stands in three acres of gardens with views towards York Minster and the city walls, a lovely backdrop for photographs. Several rooms are licensed for civil ceremonies, including the oak-panelled Oak Room with its carvings and sash windows, the Ebor Room with large windows over the gardens, and the first-floor Crown and Wedgewood rooms with their period details. With well over a hundred bedrooms, guests can stay right in the heart of the city.

Vintage Booth. For warmth and character, our vintage photo booth hire is hand-crafted from solid oak with a choice of backdrops. It looks especially at home alongside the panelling of the Oak Room, and its open design welcomes big groups. From £625, with an upgrade to the Glam Booth for £25.
AI Photo Booth. Our AI Photo Booth brings AI backgrounds, artistic styles, avatars and face swaps, with instant prints. Imagine a steam-age portrait in a hotel built for the railway.
Party Pod. Our self-service Party Pod and Digital Pod are available here when booked with our DJ.

Planning tips for a photo booth at The Milner York
- Know your rooms. With several licensed rooms, confirm with the hotel’s wedding team where your evening reception will be held and where the booth should go.
- Allow for set-up. We arrive an hour before the booth opens, so share access details and timings from your coordinator with us in advance.
- Time it well. Opening the booth as evening guests arrive gets everyone involved from the start.
- Use the gardens in daylight. Take your couple shots with the Minster views earlier in the day, then let the booth capture the party.
- Think about guests arriving by train. With the station next door, a print design showing your date and venue makes a great souvenir for guests heading home.

We booked Selfie Star Photobooths after seeing the photobooth in action at a wedding fayre. Booking with them was seamless and everything was so easy to access on the portal. We booked Selfie Star Photo Booth for our wedding and honestly it was one of the best investments we made. We went for the Kardashian filter to match our monochrome wedding theme and it looked incredible — the photos came out so stylish and elevated. Our guests absolutely loved it and were using it all night. The fact guests could have unlimited prints was amazing, and every print strip was personalised with our Mr & Mrs name and wedding date, with 3 photos on each print which looked so professional. Sally also shared a download link afterwards with all of the images, which was such a lovely touch. One of our favourite parts was coming home with a beautiful gift box containing copies of all the prints for us to add into our guest book and keep forever. Sally was fantastic throughout and everything ran so smoothly. We couldn’t recommend Selfie Star enough!

Absolutely amazing DJ and photobooth service for our wedding! Communication beforehand was excellent and they made everything so easy and stress-free from start to finish. They arrived punctually, were incredibly professional, and did everything we asked for with no problem at all. The DJ kept the dancefloor full all night and was also a fantastic MC, helping the whole evening run smoothly and keeping the atmosphere lively and fun. The photobooth was such a hit with all our wedding guests too! We couldn’t have asked for better entertainment for our special day and would highly recommend them to anyone planning a wedding or event.

What a cracking experience we had at a wedding yesterday with Selfie Star! Overall a friendly, humorous but professional service! selfie star made our wedding!! run by two of the nicest people we have ever met, Wayne and sal went above and beyond for us to make our special day run as smoothly as possible. They even took all the stress away before hand and communicated with the hotel about arranging the room and making sure everything we had hired from them would fit, they contacted the tribute band we had coming to the wedding and made their set up easier by connect up to selfie stars equipment which made our turn around from the day in to the evening party much quicker! The dancefloor, star light back drop and light up shoots completely transformed our room, it looked amazing!! we also had the dancing with clouds and cold spark fire work for our first dance which was also looked amazing! selfie star also hosted our full day and was our DJ Which I believe made the day run so well. They made us feel very special and organised all the special parts of the day to make sure they went as well as they possibly could and really made the special moments count! THe music was brilliant they played a mixture of songs we asked for and then a mixture of songs from 80s 90s and now which was great the dancefloor was full of people all night! highly recommended this company they are fantastic, we also had the table selfie centerpiece aswell which we and all our guests had lots of fun with and captured loads of memories! We met Sally and Wayne at a wedding fair and hiring them was the best decision ever ( despite already having a DJ provided within our wedding package at Aldwark Manor) we knew it would be an extra cost but we were willing to do this as we wanted Wayne as our DJ , and he was worth every penny, he made our wedding exactly what we wanted he listened to our preferences and tailored the music to our taste. The guests absolutely loved him. He also helped organise the dance floor which I wanted and provided letters. Sally on the photobooth was equally amazing, guests had such a laugh and kept Sally busy. Definitely a must have at any party. The added bonus of us receiving a copy of every photo taken that night and placed in a box was simply brilliant myself and my husband were able to look through these at our leisure and have a good giggle.
