Here we are in the busiest part of the wedding season with events taking place daily up and down the country. Venues running at capacity, Service providers like us here at Selfie Star Events turning our services almost daily and yet we are also receiving the highest number of enquiries we have seen from brides & grooms who have had a cancellation from a service provider who is supplying services to their wedding day or loosing all contact completely and even being blocked by service providers!
What is going on?
Well there are a few things to understand about the business first in terms of some background to understand why this is happening. Firstly, whether it’s a DJ, Photobooth, Magic Mirror, Dancefloor, LOVE Letters or any other service provided to support weddings, many of the service providers out there do it as a side business to their main jobs. To supplement an existing income or for that big of extra pocket money. The second situation we are seeing develop is many of these so called businesses are offering their services at really low prices to secure bookings for every weekend they are not doing their main job so they always have that extra income source available. The bride and groom believe they are getting a great deal and it seems on face value that everyone is happy. The reality however can often be very different.
What happens when that service provider has decided they are now having a weekend away with their family or a last minute trip with friends? What happens when from the initial low price they offered, they get a second enquiry for that date that they then quote at a more realistic market value price and get the job? The answer is simple, they let you down or worse still, say nothing and simply don’t turn up, in many cases taking your deposit or money with them.

Check out your suppliers in depth
Go with a trusted supplier
Google them to find any adverse comments
Ask all the questions
Make sure there is a contract in place
Good DJ’s aint cheap and cheap DJ’s aint good – this applies to everything. You genuinely do get what you pay for sadly!
Book in good time, don’t leave it last minute otherwise you are likely to end up with the not so good ones

Now we also need to clarify that the wedding industry could not be supported by the small number of full time businesses out there, many of the part time businesses do an excellent job, have the same ethos and work hard for you behind the scenes, ahead of your event and on the day of your event. Without them the industry would not function. SO the biggest piece of advice we can give you is this, DO YOUR RESEARCH AND PAY A FAIR MARKET PRICE, dont just go with the cheapest and definitely do not go with those that are unwilling to send you examples of their work etc.
